photograph of Eva Hancock
photograph of Eva Hancock, "One of the outstanding business women of Surry County is Miss Eva Hancock, who has been connected with the Surry County Loan and Trust Company at Dobson for the past seventeen years. Miss Hancock, born and reared in Surry County, received her high school and business training at the Brevard Junior College in the mountains of western North Carolina, and upon completion of her education she returned at once to accept a position in her native community at Dobson. After serving as teller of the Dobson Bank for one year, she was promoted to assistant treasurer, ranking next to R. C. "Cleve" Llewellyn in the institution. Then in 1934, when the Surry County Loan and Trust Company and its home office moved to Mount Airy, Miss Hancock was again promoted to treasurer of the Dobson Bank, a post she still holds. Miss Hancock is well known in the banking circles in North Carolina, being an active member of the North Carolina Bankers' Association. She has served as vice-chairman of group 5 of the woman's division of that organization, which includes all the territory around Winston-Salem and Mount Airy. She is also an active member of the Dobson Woman's Club and has served as secretary and as treasurer of that organization at various times. She calls flower growing her chief hobby, and she has a beautiful little flower garden on a small lot just in the rear of the Dobson Bank, which she directs." -
