Photograph of Thomas Vestal Hamlin, first Clerk of Court of Surry County
Thomas Vestal (T.V.) Hamlin, son of William Hamlin (d. 3/2/1844) and Mary Vestal (1794-?) was born circa 1821 and was married in Surr County o 11/13/1844 to Sarah Jane "Sallie" Askew. T.V. was a noted blacksmith in the Dobson area. He served as the Clerk of Court for Surry County from 1852-1861. It was during his term in office that the county courthouse was moved from Rockford to Dobson.
