commemorative plate featuring Central Methodist Church. Plate, souvenir with gold rim, picture of Central Methodist Church, Mt. Airy, NC, in center, raised fruit and leaves forming 1" border. On the back: "Central Methodist Church had its true beginning as a Mission congregation in Lebanon Chapel built about 1825, having been founded by Frances Asbury when he preached in this area in the late 1700's. Around 1865 Lebanon Chapel membership erected and moved into a new church on South Main Street. In 1892, this congregation felt need of, nearer the center of town, a larger church. Thus the present Central Methodist Church- now bearing memorial windows to honor Rev. Miles Foy, Rev. James Needham, Rev. Z. Vance Price, Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Paddison, and Carrie and Willie Taylor- stands on the corner of Dixie and Franklin Streets, on land donated by Mr. J.H. Sparger. The 1894 cornerstone designates the year the group began worshipping in thes structure."
