Letter to W.F. Carter Letter to W.F. Carter regarding the will of Thomas Woodroffe Senior.
letter, November 26th, 1909, Mr. W. F. Carter, Dobson, North Carolina, Dear Mr. Carter, We enclose herewith a letter and typewritten copy of an agreement under cover addressed to Mr. W. W. Hampton, Clerk of Superior Court, and will thank you to refer to the records and read the will of Thomas Woodroffe (deceased) which was probated in or about July 1900, shortly after his death. Also please read the enclosed copy of copartnership agreement drawn up at the same time as the will and our letter to Mr. Hampton which is intended as a report in view of the fact that we have no financial transactions to report on, other than those mentioned in our letter. After reading these papers you will find the general drift of the will and contract taken together show that aside from the payment of three small legacies at our convenience and the application of his only Life Insurance Policy for the benefit of our Mother everything else involved in which he had any interest whatever became our property. We are sending these to you feeling that you can explain our position to the clerk should anything not be entirely clear to him. Yours very truly, (signature is very hard to read - possibly) - Geo W. ?? W / Admins of Tho W Dec'd, on the outside of the paper - November 26th, 1909, copy our letter to W. F. Carter, attorney, in re our partnership agreement (T W & ????) & our acts ???????? of will of ?? Woodroffe Senior

Letter from Frank and Clara to Mother Letter from Frank and Clara (Woodroffe) Pryor to Mother about the San Francisco earthquake.
letter, Sites, California, April 19, 1906, Dear mother, Clara and Rob were to go to San Jose to day with a neighbor a Mr. Shearrin and we went as far as Sites and there heard of the dreadful earth quake at San Francisco and near by towns, She could have gone there by way of Sacramento but was afraid to go There is a great deal of uncertainty and distress among the people everywhere as most of them have friends or relatives in the city. We do not know to what extent the trouble is but hear all manner of reports. Claras health is very bad and was just able to go away Now she will have to wait for some time may be until the 15 of June as the Dr is going to Japan and will not get back until then. I may take her to see some other physician possibly in Sacramento if we decide not to wait for Dr Wayland I hope this will find all of you well, we were very fortunate in not starting to the city earlier as Clara would have gone sooner if she had been well enough and would have stopped in San Francisco and might have been caught there If I had gone with her as we at one time expected I would have stopped at one of the hotels in the part of the city that we understand was destroyed. If she hads gone with me Shearrin she would have stopped at his wifes place. She keeps a lodging house and used to keep a hotel in Sites. I suppose Frank remembers them Every thing up here now is lovely The most beautiful time of the year We have nearly 200 little turkeys hatched and a good many hens setting. Clara will add a P.S. Love to all. From Frank. Dear Mother, I add aline to Frank's letter. I am glad to be home safe and sound. Oh such reports as have come to Sites to way from San Francisco. If all had gone as we intended I would have been caught in San Francisco, but I was sick and didn't start, and ???? I have every thing to be thankful for. You will see it all in the papers. I hope you are well and all the rest too. You see I had planned to go through San Francisco and be there a day or two which would have caught me F??? is ????ing the city and has destroyed several large cities So we hear, Love to all from Clara (the letter is written by Frank Woodroffe and Clara Ruth (his sister) to their mother in Mt. Airy, it was written while Frank was visiting his sister in Sites, California, it describes the historic San Francisco earthquake)

Poem- Old England Poem entitled Old England by Mrs. Mary Ann Coy (Cox?) copied by Fannie W.
poem, Old England, by Mrs. Mary Ann Cox, Copied by Fannie W.
Blest home of my childhood, beyond the blue sea,
As magnet to pole my heart turns to thee,
Where're I may rest, or where're I may roam,
I'm a wanderer, an exile, away from my home.
Although in this land of the West I now dwell,
Around me I feel thy magical spell.
Thou birthplace of freedom! Queen isle of the sea,
I love thy dear name, it is music to me,
I think on thy honor, benevolence, fame,
Till a halo of glory encircles thy name.
So fair are thy landscapes that artists must fail,
To depict the rich ?erdure of hill, and of dale,
Where Castles, and Halls of magnificence stand,
Memorials of history, bestriding the land.
When lonely and sad, with forebodings of fear,
How sweet tis to think of the home that's so dear, -
Of the friends still unchanged, at whose hearths I am missed,
Of the hand I have clasped, and the lips I have kissed,
Of the tears that spoke words tongue never could tell,
When in sorrow we parted, and whispered "Farewell."
God bless thee Dear England! and bless thy loved Queen,
A monarch more faithful this world has not seen,
May the God of the widow her footsteps attend, Support with His arms, and from danger defend.
Adiew! beloved country, for ever I'll be,
Unswerving and true, in allegiance to thee.
