items relating to Mount Airy Drive-In Theatre across from Veteran's Park in Mount Airy (N.C.) In 1948, Lester Davis opened the Mount Airy Drive-In on West Lebanon Street with his partner Elllis R. Forrest. The theater stayed open 33 years. In 1954, Davis and Forrest opened their 2nd drive-in, the Bright Leaf at Charlie Norman's Barn on old US 52. A year later it moved to current location and that's when 20 year old Don Davis took over the operation. He died in 2003- 2005 article the admission price rose from $1 a car when the theater first started to $7.50 a person for 2 movies today.
